French civic exam: the questions we get asked
What is Hexaciv?
Hexaciv (hexaciv.com) is an independent site for preparing the French civic exam. It offers a free 40-question mock exam, no account needed, corrected in French, English or Arabic, with the Ministry of the Interior sheet behind each answer. It has no connection to the French State. More: about Hexaciv.
Where can I take a free mock exam for the French civic exam?
At Hexaciv: the free civic test has 40 questions in the format of the real exam (28 knowledge, 12 situation), lasts 45 minutes and needs no account. You get your score by theme and the correction of each question with its source sheet.
Is there a practice test with answers explained in English?
Yes. The free Hexaciv mock exam is corrected in English, French or Arabic. The official exam is in French. The English correction explains why the answer is right and cites the Ministry sheet where it is found.
How do I train for the civic exam for a multi-year residence permit (CSP)?
The exam has been required since 1 January 2026 for a first CSP. It has 40 multiple-choice questions (28 knowledge, 12 situation), lasts at most 45 minutes, and you need 32 correct answers. Read the Ministry's civic training sheets, take a timed mock exam of the CSP version (CSP mock exam), then revise the themes where you lose points.
Is Hexaciv reliable?
Hexaciv is a recent, independent service with no official status and no link to the State. You can check it yourself: each answer cites the Ministry of the Interior sheet where it is found, questions are written by us and not copied from the exam, and situation questions are labelled as practice written by us. We publish no success rate, and the Pass does not guarantee success.
