Hexaciv Free mock exam

Free reminder: do not miss the renewal date of your residence card

Last verified: 19 October 2026. This is a checklist, not legal advice; check the official page: Service-Public F35799. Hexaciv is independent and not linked to the administration.

Enter your card and its expiry date. We write at most twice: 4 months and then 2 months before the expiry (the exact day depends on your card and is shown below). Each message gives the filing window as Service-Public writes it, the cost in tax stamps, the steps, and what to know before travelling with a card that is about to expire. It is free, needs no account, and your address is erased after the second message.

What each sheet says, card by card

  • Multi-year, employee or entrepreneur/liberal profession
Filing window according to the sheet dans les 2 mois précédant la fin de validité de votre carte de séjour (in the 2 months before the card stops being valid), at the prefecture or sub-prefecture (Service-Public F35799)
Cost (renewal) Vous devez payer 250 € par timbres fiscaux. (€250 in tax stamps)
  • Multi-year, student
Filing window according to the sheet on ANEF, au plus tôt 4 mois et au plus tard 2 mois avant la fin de validité de votre carte de séjour (at the earliest 4 months, at the latest 2 months before) (Service-Public F35799)
Cost (renewal) Vous devez payer 100 € (droit de timbre de 50 € + 50 €) par timbres fiscaux (€100)
  • Multi-year, private and family life
Filing window according to the sheet the sheet says that filing and its deadline dépendent du motif pour lequel vous sollicitez cette carte (depend on the reason you ask for this card): we compute no date (Service-Public F35799)
Cost (renewal) €250 in the general case; €100 if you receive an industrial-accident or occupational-disease pension
  • Resident card, another card
Filing window according to the sheet the resident card sheet gives no renewal deadline and we do not know the rule for other cards: we compute no date (Service-Public F2208)
    Cost (renewal) see the sheet

(some sub-prefectures do not take applications: check your prefecture's website)

Expired card: do not travel without the right document

Before leaving the Schengen area, read the sheet Service-Public F12189. It says: Vous pouvez revenir en France avec votre passeport et votre titre de séjour valides. (You can return to France with your valid passport and valid residence card.) With an expired card it names two renewal documents, each to be shown with the expired card and a valid passport: Vous pouvez revenir avec votre récépissé de demande de renouvellement de carte de séjour, accompagné de votre titre de séjour périmé et de votre passeport valide. (the renewal receipt) and L'attestation de prolongation de l'instruction d'une demande de titre de séjour délivrée à l'occasion d'un renouvellement de titre de séjour vous permet de revenir. (the extension certificate issued at a renewal). By contrast: L'attestation de prolongation de l'instruction d'une demande première demande de titre de séjour ne permet pas de revenir. (the extension certificate of a first application does not let you return). An expired card on its own is not on the list.

Your data

We keep your address, card category, expiry date and language only for these two messages. Everything is erased after the second one, when you unsubscribe (one click from every email), 7 days after an unconfirmed request, or 30 days after the expiry date. We ask for no document. Details: privacy.

To change a date, unsubscribe from any message and start again. If your expiry is more than 26 months away, come back later: we do not keep an address that long.
