How much does the French civic exam cost? 470 centres, 99 prices shown
On 21 October 2026, 99 of the 470 civic exam centres we list (21%) show their fee on their own website or their provider's. Prices run from €55 to €100, with a median of €70 per provider. The Ministry of the Interior says €60 to €80; 96 of the 99 fees we read fall inside that range.
Sources: the centres' fee pages, read one by one on 21 October 2026 (URL and quoted sentence in the open file), the lists of France Éducation international and of the CCI Paris Île-de-France, and the Ministry's answer in the National Assembly (11 August 2026, in French). Four centres in five don't show their price
The civic exam is required for a first multi-year residence card, a first resident card or naturalisation, and each centre sets its own price. To know what you will pay, you have to look centre by centre. We did that for the 470 centres in our directory: on the centre's website or its provider's, we looked for the exam fee. Only 224 of the 470 centres have a website of their own in the official lists; for the others, we looked for their provider's page.
- 99 centres out of 470 (21%) show a price on their website or their provider's;
- 371 centres (79%) show none that we could read. That does not mean they are free or expensive: the price may only appear after a form, a phone call or a registration;
- the centres that show a price are in 52 départements out of 100; in the other 48, we read no fee at all.
Prices from €55 to €100, median €70
The 99 fees come from 37 providers (a provider = one training organisation's website, running one or more centres). So that each provider counts once, here are their prices:
| Price shown | Providers |
|---|---|
| €55 | 1 |
| €60 | 5 |
| €65 | 1 |
| €70 | 18 |
| €73 | 1 |
| €75 | 5 |
| €80 | 5 |
| €100 | 1 |
In its answer to the National Assembly on 11 August 2026, the Ministry of the Interior writes that the price is between €60 and €80 depending on the centre. Of the 99 centres whose fee we read, 96 are inside that range; three are outside: two centres of Greta CFA Montpellier Littoral at €55 (Montpellier and Sète) and one centre at €100 in Toulon (a training provider's catalogue page).
One network supplies more than half of the prices we read
The two medians answer different questions. Per centre, the median is €73, because the Léo Lagrange network shows €73 for 51 of its centres. Per provider, it is €70. We use the second, which does not depend on the size of a network.
| Provider (website) | Centres with a price | Price shown |
|---|---|---|
| Léo Lagrange Formation | 51 | €73 |
| AEFTI | 6 | €70 |
| Ressources Formation | 4 | €75 |
| IFPA Formation | 2 | €75 |
| Greta CFA de Corse | 2 | €70 |
| Greta CFA Gard-Lozère | 2 | €75 |
| Greta CFA Montpellier Littoral | 2 | €55 |
The other 30 providers have one centre with a price each. Each centre's page in our directory gives its price, the page where we read it and the date we read it.
What to do with this
- Ask for the price before you book. A centre that shows nothing may be inside the Ministry's range, above it or below it: the only way to know is to ask, in writing if you can.
- Compare two or three centres in your département when there are several: the prices we read run from €55 to €100 for the same exam.
- Keep a record of the price you were quoted (a screenshot of the page, an email): the price we read is the one the centre shows, not necessarily the one charged when you book.
- Pay for the exam only once. Every sitting is paid for, and the exam can be retaken as often as needed: the free mock exam lets you check your level before you book.
Method and limits
- List of centres: the 470 centres of our open directory, built from the lists of France Éducation international and of the CCI Paris Île-de-France, read on 21 October 2026. How these centres are spread across départements is in the study by département (in French).
- Price: the amount the centre, or its provider, shows on its own website, with the page address, the quoted sentence and the date we read it. "No price" means an empty cell, never an estimate.
- Check: on 23 October 2026 we re-read 10 centres with a price at random, one per source page; the quoted amount was on the page in all 10 cases.
- Provider: we group centres by the website where the price was read. Two sites of the same group count as two providers.
- What we do not measure: the price actually charged, any extra fees, centres missing from both lists, fees visible only behind a form.
- Prices change: the figures hold for 21 October 2026. We will read them again next month and report the changes.

Frequently asked questions
How many civic exam centres show their price? On 21 October 2026, 99 of the 470 centres in our open directory (built from the lists of France Éducation international and of the CCI Paris Île-de-France, read on 21 October 2026), or 21%, show a fee on their website or their provider's. For the other 371, we could not read a price.
How much does the French civic exam cost? The Ministry of the Interior says €60 to €80 depending on the centre (11 August 2026). The prices we read run from €55 to €100, with a median of €70 per provider; 96 of the 99 prices we read are inside the Ministry's range.

Is a centre that does not show its price more expensive? We don't know: we have no fee for those centres. Ask the centre for the price before you book.
Whatever your centre charges, pay for the exam only once: practise first, in exam conditions.
